Faheem Ashraf turned out to be a surprise package with the ball and finished with 18 wickets in PSL 2018

Islamabad United came out on top in PSL 2018 finals against Peshawar Zalmi to lift the coveted trophy.Here we look at the top five bowlers of the PSL 2018 that produced scintillating performances with the ball in the competition.

Wahab Riaz

Left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz claimed 18 wickets, equal to what United’s Faheem Ashraf did, but his impact was far more superior than any other bowler in the tournament. The most impressive aspect of Riaz’s performance was his economy rate of 6.90, which becomes even more astonishing considering the fact that he bowled majority of the overs at the back end of the innings.

Second, in the list features tournament’s join-highest wicket-taker –United’s Faheem Ashraf. Even though Ashraf’s economy rate of 7.75 was on the higher side, but his average (17.22) and strike-rate (13.3) was far superior to than that of the Riaz.

Usman Khan Shinwari

Third, in the list features Kings’ pacer Usman Khan Shinwari. The left-arm finished the tournament as the third-highest wicket-taker behind Zalmi’s Riaz and United’s Ashraf with 16 scalps and completely outshone his fellow teammate pacer Mohammad Amir, which is often not the case.

The 24-year-old’s performance, where he claimed wickets at an amazing strike-rate of 16.12 and strike-rate of 12, becomes even more impressive considering the fact that he was coming back after a gap of months following stress fracture injury.

Sunil Narine

Fourth in the list features Qalanadrs’ West Indies spinner, Sunil Narine. The off-spinner was Qalandars’ best bowler in the tournament, even though he claimed one fewer wicket than fellow leg-spinner Yasir Shah. The 29-year-old claimed 10 wickets at an average of 20.40 with an outstanding economy rate of just six and also won his team a match against Kings in the super over.

Rahat Ali

Quetta Gladiators’ Rahat Ali, who was the surprise package of the tournament as not many understood why franchise picked him considering his mediocre record in the domestic T20s. However, Rahat finished the tournament with 15 scalps, fourth in the list for most wickets in PSL 2018. The 29-year-old claimed wickets at an average of 21.46 and strike-rate of 16.9.
