The England contingent in PSL in Eoin Morgan, Alex Hales, Jason Roy will not travel to Pakistan for playoff games citing security reasons.

The third edition of Pakistan Super League has reached its fag end with the culmination of round-robin stage. There is uncertainty with regards to foreign players who are doubtful for the playoffs of PSL 2018 that will be played in Lahore.

England’s Alex Hales (Islamabad United), Eoin Morgan (Karachi Kings), Jason Roy (Quetta Gladiators) have made it clear that they will not travel to Pakistan due to security issues. The three players will not be available for playoffs that will be played in Lahore. England’s Sam Billings is also doubtful for the playoffs games of PSL 2018 in Pakistan.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen who plays for Quetta Gladiators spoke to the media in Dubai and said that he will not travel to Pakistan. Australia’s Shane Watson also said that he will consult with his family before making a trip to Pakistan to play for Quetta Gladiators in the playoff game of PSL 2018.

Sri Lanka’s legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara also remains doubtful and stated that he will make a decision once the remaining round-robin games are done and dusted this week. Sangakkara was on the bus when Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by Terrorist in 2009 in Lahore. The event saw Pakistan playing all their home games in the United Arab Emirates with other international sides refusing to tour the country due to security concerns.

Last year, Pakistan Cricket Board conducted the final of Pakistan Super League in Lahore which saw all foreign players from Peshawar Zalmi take part in the event. The foreign players from the Quetta Gladiators squad did not travel to Pakistan for the final against Peshawar.

Pakistan Cricket Board ‘(PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi stated that the franchises need to pick strong replacement players to make sure the fans get to see closely contested final in Karachi. He said that the authorities have done a remarkable job of successfully hosting the final in Lahore last year. The security officials from FICA and ICC have also made their trips to Pakistan to oversee security arrangements and have given PCB clearance to host the playoff games of PSL 2018 in Lahore. The final will be played in Karachi on 25th March.
