Islamabad United have suffered a setback of sorts as Russell will not play remaining games of the competition.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of PSL 2018 and will not play for Islamabad United in the competition after suffering from a hamstring injury. Russell felt discomfort in his right hamstring after bowling the first over in the game against Karachi Kings played on Sunday.

Islamabad United official spoke to the media and stated that Russell had gone for further examination and the results have not been good. Andre Russell has been out of action for the longest time after handed out one-year ban by Doping agency for failing to comply with doping rules. He has played a key for Islamabad in this year’s competition and was the player who steered to a famous super-over win against Lahore Qalandars by smashing a six off the bowling of Mustafizur Rahman.

Andre Russell might also miss the early part of Indian Premier League, where he plays for Kolkata Knight Riders. The West Indies all-rounder was retained by the franchise for the coming season. The extent of injury is not yet known as all-rounder might take at least six weeks to regain full fitness.

Islamabad United will be gutted by the fact they have lost a crucial player in Andre Russell who could have been a handful in win games for the side in the competition.
