Imad Wasim-led unit keep top of the league spot with 27-run victory
All-rounder Ravi Bopara produced a responsible knock and Shahid Afridi’s outstanding spell of leg-spin lead Karachi Kings to a 27-run win over Lahore Qalandars in the eighth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Dubai on Monday.
Kings were going in the match on top of the league table with back-to-back victories against Quetta Gladiators and defending champions Peshawar Zalmi.On the other hand, Qalandars will be hoping for an improved show after defeats against Gladiators and Multan Sultans. The day started with Kings captain Imad Wasim winning the toss and deciding to bat first. His decision, however, backfired as Kings were reduced to 36 for three in the sixth over.
However, Bopara, along with Colin Ingram helped the side stabilize and managed to post 159 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.The star of the show for the Kings was Bopara, who scored an unbeaten 50 off 34 with the help of two fours and two sixes, whereas Ingram scored valuable 28.
For Qalandars, pacer Sohail Khan, leg-spinner Yasir Shah and off-spinner Sunil Narine claimed two wickets each.In reply, Qalandars once again had a flying start and cruised to 70 for one in the seventh over.
But once again, the team suffered another monumental collapse which saw them lose last nine wickets for just 62 runs as Qalandars were eventually bowled out for 132 in the 19th over.
Captain Brand McCullum finished the innings with the top score of 44 off 30 with the help of five fours and two sixes.For Kings, veteran all-rounder Afridi and pacer Usman Khan Shinwari, was the pick of the bowlers as they claimed three wickets each.
