Hussain Talat produced a scintillating performance with the bat to help Islamabad United overcome Multan Sultans in Pakistan Super League game played in Dubai. Stand-in captain Rumman Raees won the toss and opted to bowl in overcast conditions.

Kumar Sangakkara was dismissed early in the innings as Islamabad United took firm control of the game. United experienced pacer Mohammad Sami made two crucial breakthroughs to dismiss Sohail Maqsood and Darren Bravo in no time. England pacer Steve Finn made an immediate impact with the bat to get rid of Ahmed Shehzad. Shoaib Malik and Kieron Pollard did produce a resistance of sorts but it wasn’t enough as Multan Sultans were dismissed for a paltry score of 113 runs in 19.5 overs.

Chasing a target of 114 runs, Islamabad also got off to worse start possible as Luke Ronchi was dismissed by left-arm quick Muhammad Irfan in the first over of the innings. Multan’s premier spinner Imran Tahir dismissed Sahibzada Farhan and Asif Ali to see Islamabad United slump to 63 for 4 in 10.2 overs. Chadwick Walton played well and scored 28 runs off 23 balls to keep United in the hunt in the chase. For Islamabad, Hussain Talat turned out to be an unlikely hero with the bat. The left-handed batsman smashed 48 runs in just 34 balls to steer Islamabad United to their first win of the competition.

Hussain Talat was named the man of the match for his superb show with the bat as Islamabad United opened their account with a victory over Multan Sultans.
