Karachi Kings registered their second successive win of the tournament as they beat Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets in the seventh match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Dubai on Sunday. The day started with Zalmi captain Darren Sammy surprisingly deciding to bat first after winning the toss.

His decision proved a disastrous one, as, after a flying start, Zalmi kept losing wickets at regular intervals and only managed to score 131 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The star of the show was West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Smith, who scored an unbeaten 71 off 51 with the help of four fours and five sixes.

The most disappointing aspect of the Zalmi innings was running between the wickets, as defending champions had three run outs. For Kings, left-arm pacer Muhammad Amir and veteran leg-spinner Shahid Afridi claimed two, where fast bowlers Tymal Mills and Muhammad Irfan claimed a wicket each.

In reply, Kings had a decent start and at one stage were 58 for one in the ninth over. However, spirited bowling performance from Zalmi unit made sure there was nothing available for free. However, eventually managed to get over the line with two balls to spare, courtesy huge six from captain Imad Wasim.Right-handed opener Joe Denly was the most successful batsman for the Kings, as he finished the innings with the top score of 29 off 39 balls with the help of four fours, whereas young Babar Azam scored 28 off 20 with the help of three fours and one six.

For Zalmi, pacer Chris Jordan and young leg-spinner Ibtisam Sheikh claimed two, whereas left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar claimed one wicket. For his outstanding batting performance, Smith was named the player of the match.
