Pakistan Super League franchise Peshawar Zalmi is known for its wide range of activities besides cricket as owner Javed Afridi also created Zalmi Foundation to promote budding talent in the KPK (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) province. Zalmi Foundation did sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KPK’s Elementary and Secondary Education Dept. to promote sports-based activities in the province.
KPK Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Atif Khan said that the provincial government has established 10,000 grounds in the province to promote and increase sports-based activities. Atif Khan said that the purpose is to find young talent at the grass root level in the province.
Peshawar Zalmi franchise owner Javed Afridi said that they have planned to organize Zalmi School League in KPK in order to pay tribute to terrorist attack victims that passed in Army Public School massacre. The league will be novel concept introduced in Pakistan by PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi as school league cricket is prevalent in Sri Lanka and South Africa. A ceremony was held to unveil the kit for the inaugural school league in Pakistan that will start from today in the country.
Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi stated that the main aim of establishing school league is to promote cricket at a basic level. Afridi has taken a great step to finding out promising talent in the KPK province in the game of cricket. Zalmi owner stated that Peshawar Zalmi Foundation aims to carry out promotions with regards to cricket to find out new talent in the province. The competition will also pay tribute to the young martyrs who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in APS Peshawar and also improve playing facilities in the KPK province.
The league will be divided into two halves i.e. Phase 1 and Phase 2. The competition will include four regional teams from Malakand, Bannu, Hazara, and Peshawar. The four teams will compete for top position to qualify for the Phase 2 stage. Phase is set to begin this month with games being played at Haripur, Hazara. The final of the competition will be staged in Peshawar where the side from APS Peshawar will also be invited to witness the game.
The winning side from Phase 1 will be added with seven teams from seven division, while side from APS Peshawar will participate in Phase 2.
